The Art Days of Summer

The Art Days of Summer

September is a prime time to acknowledge the wide spectrum of cultural organizations and institutions that work throughout the year to carry out their missions and enrich the lives of Broward’s residents and visitors. In an arts community, such as ours that is geographically spread throughout a vast County, each one of our institutions and organizations play an essential role in bringing people together and promoting connectivity.

Earlier this summer, the Cultural Division convened leaders of our diverse cultural organizations to discuss what is and what is not working within our community. Hosted at the Museum of Discovery and Science, the event brought together 46 non-profit arts and culture leaders for a productive discussion on the state of our cultural sector and how we can work together for the betterment of all.

We also celebrated our grantee artists and organizations with a reception that drew more than 200 attendees to NSU Art Museum to network, connect with friends and colleagues and hear from our elected leaders, including County Mayor Nan Rich, District 5 Commissioner Senator Steve Geller, and the chair of the Cultural Council, Janet Erlick.

On September 19, the Cultural Division will host our second annual Artists Connect event, this year at the Coral Springs Museum of Art. Just as connection and community building among our non-profits is important, the same is true for the individual artists in our community. This event is a wonderful opportunity for future grantee artists to meet past grant recipients, learn about funding opportunities, and build meaningful relationships with their peers. All artists are invited to attend. RSVP here or direct any inquiries to browardarts@broward.org.

We officially kick off the fall arts season on October 24 with the second annual State of the Arts Address, beginning at 9:30 am at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Everyone is invited to join us to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year, learn about new and exciting County-wide news and initiatives for the year ahead, and hear from elected leaders. This fun event is a great way to celebrate what makes our community great – our amazing and diverse arts and culture community.

We hope you join us for the celebrations!
