“Future Relics”
Artist Jacoub Reyes presents a pop-up exhibition, “Future Relics,” at the Broward Main Library. The inspiration for the series of paintings by the multidisciplinary artist is Gandhara art, which integrates elements of Greek classical art with Buddhist artistic traditions. As a child of a Caribbean Catholic mother and a South Asian Muslim father, Reyes explains that “mixed cultural identity is not relegated to a hyphenated background, but rather a sum of all parts that are interdependent and foundational.” His artistic process and art focuses on decolonization and unpacking his complex multicultural heritage.
