Inspired by Federico García Lorca’s unfinished novel of the same name and Alberto Conejero’s acclaimed play La piedra oscura, La Bola Negra weaves together the lives of three gay men living in 1932, 1937, and 2017. Though separated by decades, their stories are intimately connected through desire, repression, loss, and the enduring search for identity. As each man struggles to live authentically within the constraints of his era, the film traces the legacy of queer history in Spain, revealing how love, memory, and inherited trauma echo across generations. Featuring a bravura performance by Penélope Cruz, this ambitious drama is both a tribute to Lorca’s artistic legacy and a powerful celebration of resilience and self-expression.
