Katya Ostheimer & Nicholas Potter – Not Normal Times

Not Normal Times
What happens when the world stops making sense?

Politics. Social media. Artificial intelligence. Mental health. Identity. Every day, we’re asked to adapt to a reality that can feel increasingly strange, unstable, and unreal.

So what do artists do? They make something else.

Not Normal Times brings together the work of Nicholas Potter and Katya Ostheimer—two artists with radically different backgrounds and approaches, united by a willingness to look beyond the obvious.

Potter’s fantastical, politically charged paintings and works on paper populate alternate worlds with anthropomorphic characters, challenging ideas about identity, culture, and belonging. Ostheimer draws on a lifetime of artistic exploration, moving between watercolor, ink, painting, decorative arts, and restoration, while bringing an unusual perspective shaped by both art and computer science.

This isn’t art as escape.

It’s art as resistance to the idea that things have to stay the way they are.

When the times are not normal, maybe the answer isn’t to return to normal. Maybe it’s to imagine what comes next.
