Community Input Sought for New Downtown Fort Lauderdale Mural

Community Input Sought for New Downtown Fort Lauderdale Mural

A current mural on the Broward County Parking Garage is getting an upgrade and citizens of Broward County will provide input for the garage on Broward Boulevard in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The project, a collaboration between the County’s Cultural Division, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), and Twenty6North, a local public art consulting agency, includes public a survey to make sure the mural represents Broward County.

“The survey is valuable as it ensures that we have diverse feedback to present to the artist who will be creating the mural,” said Phillip Dunlap, the director of the Cultural Division.

Twenty-three artists were considered from a pool of applicants and finalists will use the community’s input to inform their design proposals.

The final selection of the muralist will be made with input from the Broward County Cultural Division, Public Art & Design Committee, Broward Cultural Council and the DDA.

The new mural is expected to be unveiled in conjunction with the Avenue of the Arts visual arts festival, a week-long visual arts festival in Fort Lauderdale this year from Sunday, Jan. 19 through Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the survey before December 8, 2024, to ensure their voices are heard in shaping this addition.
