Timeless Tropics: Florida’s Changing Landscape Exhibition at History Fort Lauderdale

History Fort Lauderdale celebrates Florida’s changing natural and urban landscapes with “Timeless Tropics: Florida’s Changing Landscape,” an exhibition that explores Florida’s diverse natural landscapes, rich history, and cultural landscape through photographs, historic maps, and paintings. The show features oil paintings by Tim Forman, a Florida-born artist who paints Florida’s beaches, seascapes, sunsets, wildlife, the Everglades, and other natural elements. Photographs by local photographer, David Paulo, are also featured in the show; Paulo’s work documents the urban landscapes of Sistrunk, Dania Beach, and his native Lauderhill, areas that are cultural hubs for South Florida’s minority communities. Historic maps showing Florida’s evolving political boundaries—from its time as a Spanish stronghold in 1749 through its adoption as a U.S. state in 1845, show another side of Florida’s changing landscape; the exhibition runs through Sept. 13.

Monumentalizing the Trace and Perseverance Exhibitions at The Frank

The Frank’s summer exhibitions, “Monumentalizing the Trace” and “Perseverance” explore themes of materiality, permanence, perception, meaning making, ephemerality, and the human drive to create. “Monumentalizing the Trace,” from the artistic duo of TREIZMAN + ZURILLA (Denise Treizman, sculpture, and Julia Zurilla, film, photography, and digital art), examines how humans remember, create meaning, and make sense of change through fragments and material remnants. Curated by Veronica Gort (interdisciplinary artist and faculty member at the New World School of the Arts), “Perseverance” features works from 15 South Florida artists and interrogates the drive to persevere in art-making despite the fleeting nature of the creative process itself. Both exhibitions are on display at The Frank through August 29.
