Terminal 2 Art Gallery – Rotating Exhibitions Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
The Broward County Aviation Department and the Broward Cultural Division’s Public Art & Design Program invite professional South Florida artists to apply for rotating exhibition opportunities at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport’s Terminal 2 Art Gallery.
Agency: Aviation Department
The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is designated A Place for People and promotes the belief that a modern airport serving millions can still be visually appealing and stimulating to the senses. In 2023, FLL served 35.1 million passengers. Pre-pandemic, the airport generated $37.5 billion in economic activity annually and nearly 18,000 direct, local jobs. The Airport has four terminals and several multi-level parking garages. Major art projects at the Airport include works by Alice Adams, Pam Beyette, Carolyn Braaksma, Clyde Butcher, James Carpenter, Paul DeMarinis, Electroland, Jim Green, Liam Gillick, Duane Hanson, Patrick Marold, Sarah Morris, Jody Pinto, Thomas Sayre, and Keith Sonnier.
Exhibition Scope
The Terminal 2 Art Gallery is located post-security on the departures level of Terminal 2. It consists of two (2) separate walls, each measuring 24 ft. wide by 8.8 ft. high that face passenger hold rooms.

This gallery space offers South Florida artists an excellent opportunity to exhibit their work in a prominent, high-traffic area in FLL (Terminal 2 processes over 200k passengers monthly). Each artist selected will be required to provide artwork for one exhibition covering two (2) 24 ft. wide by 7 ft. high wall areas (a 1.8 ft. high area at the bottom of the wall is reserved for charging stations).
Each exhibition will run for eight months. Artworks demonstrating high artistic quality that appeal to a diverse audience are encouraged. All art forms and mediums will be considered, as long as the subject matter is appropriate for all airport visitors. Due to the layout of the gallery space, artwork that projects more than 6” from the wall and
freestanding works will not be considered. Selected artists must commit to displaying their work for the full length of the exhibit.
Exhibition Budget
A Broward County selected art handler will assist with the installation of the exhibit at no cost to the artist (specialized installation services are not included). Selected artists will receive a flat honorarium of $3,000 upon the conclusion of their exhibition and submittal of a proper invoice.
Artist Responsibilities
•Coordination with Aviation Public Art Project Manager for selection of artworks and exhibition design/layout
•Delivery of artworks to the airport on the installation date
•Loan of artworks for the full length of the eight-month exhibition
•Artwork pickup at the end of the exhibition
Artist Eligibility
All professional South Florida-based artists eighteen years of age or older, living and working in South Florida (Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties), are encouraged to apply.
Anticipated Exhibition Schedule
Selection of Artists: June-July 2025
First Exhibition Installation: December 2025
Ongoing Schedule: Exhibitions will rotate every eight (8) months
Application and Exhibition Process
The Aviation Department’s public art section manages the application process. An Artist Selection Panel will review the applications and select the artists who will be placed on the exhibition roster. This Panel includes a member of the Public Art & Design Committee, arts professionals, and an agency and community representative. The scheduling of each exhibit and the selection of specific artworks for the exhibitions shall be at the discretion of the Aviation Public Art Project Manager. Efforts will be made to set compatible installation and exhibition schedules where possible.

Public Art and Design Program
The Public Art & Design Program was launched in 1976, with the vision of beautifying a rapidly-developing Broward County. The purpose of the program is to contribute to the enhancement of the built environment through the commission of works of art that create a sense of place, that improve the visual environment for the citizens of Broward County, and that advance the missions of the County departments where the projects are situated. We administer an average of 80 art projects annually, including conservation projects. Today, the citizens of Broward County own over 260 public artworks located throughout Broward County as a museum without walls.
An artist selection panel is created for each project. The Selection Panel reviews applications and recommends artists to the Public Art & Design Committee. The Public Art & Design Committee is composed of seven Broward County citizens including artists, arts administrators, designers and urban planners appointed by the Broward Cultural Council. Upon recommendation by the Public Art & Design Committee, the Broward Cultural Council reviews and determines recommendations for the purchase of all artwork and artist services to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners.
